Plantation Stud Stakes 2010
12 Jul 2010 12:15
On next Saturday 17th July, this years renewal of the Plantation Stud Stakes will take place. Former winners include the all conquering Da Re Mi, and last years heroine Barshiba was recently victorious in the Lancashire Oaks.
Much has been mentioned in the media of ideas to attract new participants to racing and indeed thoroughbred breeding. In keeping with this concept, we at Plantation have invited the recently formed TBA Next Generation committee and members to be part of our race day. The idea which is the brain child of Dermot O'Rourke will be the TBA NGs first official event.
A considerable gathering will firstly visit the gallops in Newmarket where they will be shown around by trainer John Berry, and several trainers from the younger brigade will kindly give up their time to offer an insight into training in Newmarket. They include David Simcock, Marco Botti, David Lanigan and Amy Weaver.
The group will then make their way to Plantation Stud for a viewing of resident stallion Araafa, along with several mares and foals. The hope is that the stud visit will add a new dimension to the race day and members will get an insight, albeit a brief one, into the efforts required by many to produce a racehorse.
Later in the day the participants will attend the races at Newmarket courtesy of Mr and Mrs O'Rourke.
We hope that everyone taking part has an enjoyable and enlightening day out.
